Healing Through the Anointing: Tapping Into God’s Supernatural Power
Healing is not just a biblical concept—it is a living reality in the life of every believer who understands and engages with the anointing of the Holy Spirit. From the Old Testament to the New, God reveals Himself as Jehovah Rapha—the Lord who heals. One of the most powerful ways He administers healing is through the anointing. But what exactly is this anointing, and how does it bring healing?
1. What Is the Anointing?
The anointing is the tangible presence and power of the Holy Spirit upon a person, place, or object for a divine purpose. In biblical times, oil was used to symbolize the Spirit’s presence, but the true essence of anointing is spiritual, not material.
“But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.” (1 John 2:20, NKJV)
This divine enablement empowers individuals to do what human strength cannot—whether it be teaching, prophesying, or healing. When the anointing flows, heaven touches earth, and sickness must bow.
2. Jesus: The Anointed Healer
Jesus’ ministry was founded on the anointing of the Holy Spirit. He declared this Himself:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted…” (Luke 4:18, NKJV)
Every miracle Jesus performed—opening blind eyes, raising the dead, curing leprosy—was through the anointing. He didn’t act independently as God but operated as a man filled with the Spirit (Acts 10:38), showing us the pattern for ministry today.
3. Healing Is Part of the Anointing’s Mission
The anointing is not abstract power; it has a purpose—and healing is one of its core assignments.
“And the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.” (Isaiah 10:27, KJV)
The “yoke” here can be sickness, bondage, depression, or oppression. The anointing breaks and destroys that which holds people captive. This means healing—emotional, mental, and physical—is not only possible, it is expected where the anointing is present.
4. Healing Through Anointed Vessels
In James 5:14–15, the early church practiced healing through the laying on of hands and anointing with oil:
“Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.”
This wasn’t a ritual but a channel of faith and power. Oil was the symbol, but the Holy Spirit was the healer. Today, God still uses pastors, prophets, and even everyday believers as vessels of healing through the anointing.
5. Cultivating a Healing Atmosphere
Healing is often released in environments where the Spirit is honored and the Word is believed. Worship, unity, and faith stir the anointing. When the woman with the issue of blood touched Jesus’ garment, it wasn’t the fabric that healed her—it was her faith that activated the anointing (Mark 5:27–30).
We must create room for the Spirit to move—through prayer, hunger, and honor for God’s presence.
